You Spoke, I Listened! Another Typography Roundup!

by
Length:MediumLanguages:

Everyone was so enthusiastic about last week's roundup, I decided to do another typography-based article for you, this time showcasing some of your contributions in past comments!

    • KAPITAAL

Studio Smack has this very cool award-winning piece that shows you the abundance of visual stimuli that is around us every day. The piece goes through showcasing every bit of type you could see in a given day.

    • Don't Move

RGBNerd in the comments last week showed us a video he has been working on, which takes a song (much like the Showbread video last week) and takes those lyrics for the kinetic typography. This video, however, employs a range of interesting techniques, not usually seen in kinetic typography.

    • 3Dikon

What seems to be a promo video for a post house, this video for 3Dikon uses a very simple color scheme, and very fluid movements to create a very smooth impactful message.

    • Inlingua - Business English

At first look, you think Saving Private Ryan, but then you see the words, and you see Word World from the children's TV network. This video takes everything in this war scene and makes it a metaphor for business and all the things that go along with it, good or bad.

    • Art Toyz Rock

This might be one of my favorite videos on the list. It is so simple but just so awesome. It takes the song Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes, but as the singer sings, this weird, speaker-character spits out the words in different 3D fonts which are spectacular modeled.

    • Dexter Tribute

Taken from a monologue from the show Dexter, it is crazy to think this wasn't created with any After Effects or anything. It is actually sand being blown away and reversed to bring everything back together. Very interesting concept.

    • Taylor Mali Typography

Ronnie Bruce creates an awesome looking kinetic type piece from a recording of a poem by Taylor Mali ranting about how the generation today doesn't know how to speak with conviction nowadays.

    • Psychiatric Answering Machine

This is a pretty simple, yet very funny recording of an answering machine for a (fake) mental hospital addressing every kind of mental disorder you could possibly have.

    • Kinetics

After shooting a breakdancer at 500 frames a second, slowing it down, and adding some type floating around in the mix, Kinetics shows an exploration into human movement and relating it to illustrative typographical elements.

    • Phone Booth Motion Typography

The most popular kinetic typography pieces are taken from monologues from movies, and this one is pretty slick, taking it's audio from the beginning of the movie Phone Booth.

    • Jay-Z - Brooklyn

A unique technique that I haven't seen before, this uses the letters in the word "BROOKLYN" over and over set at different sizes on a virtual canvas to create a piece of portrait art.

    • That's it for our reader submitted entries, now back to your regularly scheduled roundup.

    • Creative Call

Last year, Carlos Lascano put out the creative call to artists and talent all around the world. To go along with that call, he created this killer mograph piece,

    • Experimental Typography

There are four videos on this Vimeo channel with a mix of 3D, 2D, and live action elements to really make some organic, and very abstract looking text animations.

    • Foundamental Network

When you first watch this video, you are going to wonder how this is related to typography, but just watch it progress... it will reveal itself as time goes on.

    • 2012 The Book Teaser

This time we have a stop-motion piece, that is so well done, and so well colored, you would swear it was 3D. Anyways, wrapping up the number 2012 in things like newspaper and cardboard, it makes for a very cool organic video.

    • Ellegarden - Marry Me

Very fast paced song, and very fluid animation techniques. I particularly like this video because of how fast it is, and how the author was able to keep up with animating the words as well as adding in some character as well.

    • Coin Classic - If You Smile

Same author as the previous video, this one uses a lot of linear wipe as well as a some (minor) character animation, and some very cool flip book and scribbling effects that I am particularly fond of.

    • Advent Conspiracy

This is one of those videos that makes you take a step back and look at your life, and how you spend your time, like Christmas. Instead of going to parties, buying gifts and spending time and money on useless things, and just spend more time with the things that matter like family. I know it ain't Christmas time, but it is always good to get a reality check.

    • SXE Phil Theme Song

I am on the internet a lot, and one of the guys that I watch RELIGIOUSLY is Philip DeFranco aka SXEPhil. One of the loyal member of the DeFranco Nation decided to make this beauty of a theme song, in the form of some sick kinetic typography.

    • Personal Profile

Now, I don't know why more motion designers don't create something like this to stick on their CV. Jordi Pages has a brilliant idea to make a kinetic type piece to show potential employers a little bit about himself, while showing off some skills at the same time.

    • Mocs

Another one of those videos that doesn't reveal itself until the very end, but when it gets there, it's totally worth it. The 3D work on this piece is spectacular, and you wouldn't really think by looking at the end product that it is actually so detailed when you get closer in.

    • Sherlock Holmes Credits

I tried searching for it last week, but just could not pinpoint it's location. But alas Watson! I found the final credits to Sherlock Holmes, which are gorgeously designed with drawings and some spectacular inkblotty effects as well.

    • 2010

I don't speak french (I'm guessing that's it), but I do speak design, and this is one hell of a piece with just a couple of digits in it. Magnol Pierre has created a spectacular video in which the number 2010 is floating in water along with what seems to be some creatures or parasite? I don't know... I just know it is awesome.
